Blackwelder Family Dinner 10/11

OK yes I know what day it is, and it's taken me far too long to get this up & I am sorry to those that have been waiting....but here it is! On the side bar to the right there is a link to the photos taken at the big dinner, so go check them out & feel free to make comments in the album to name who you know. As for the dinner, I would have to say it was a huge success! There were about 80 or so people there in total from our immediate Dan Blackwelders Crew, Clayton's gang, Tavey's gang & Charlotte's Trio! Sorry gang just doesn't fit there are only 3 of them in total. :) The funny thing is that I always knew we had a LARGE group of relatives but I am still amazed at how suprised I was by the number of those in attendance whom I had no earthly clue of who they were. Never the less it was fun to see & chat with everyone there, I don't think I was the only one a bit overwhelmed @ the faces I didn't know or remember. A big thanks to those who could make it & visit, and I wish we would have had more come. Even though the group was pretty big, there are several more families not represented, not to mention other famiy members who weren't able to attend. Thanks to Gretchen for sharing photos she took as well! Thank you's to Jon, Gerry, Charlyn & Lorna for putting it all together! Enjoy the pictures!

Family Get Together : October 11th

Aunt Charlyn asked if I would post this Invite to all the family. In hopes you would all be able to attend and requests you would make a special effort to be there. She also issued a Uno or Rook challenge to any & all who might be up for it! Anyone........Anyone??????? It is high school reunion time for Lorna, Gary Blackwelder, and Charlyn (actually Curtis). They will be here in Orlando for October 10th and are planning a family get together for Sunday night October 11th from 5-7:00 pm at the Apopka Ward building. I know Lorna is inviting all her siblings as well as Aunt Myrt, Mary Francis, Wayne, Larry, Mark, Glenda, Beverly, etc. We are also hoping many from the next generation will come, i.e. Brooke, Nolan, Scott (Pope and Wood), Garrett, Gretchen, Barry, Lukas, Nicole, Tammy, Matt, Michael, etc. Please call anyone you have a phone number for so they will get the word. Everyone will bring a meal for their family and we will put it all together for a pot luck. It will be just eat and talk which we should be able to do for two hours with no trouble at all! Hope you can all come as well as any family that is in the area. Please notify your own family members and please let Gerry or Jon or Charlyn or Lorna know if you are coming so we will have plenty of drinks and tables. Thanks and see you soon!

House Fire in Utah - Chad Blackwelder

Chad Blackwelder is living in Utah with his mom, Leah & her family. They had a grease fire go out of control. They were lucky to get out unharmed, for the most part, but the house is completely ruined. Below is a note he wrote about the incident. Please keep them in your prayers and there is a link for a family fund below if you can help. Glad you're OK Chad! Hugs! -Leigh "Well, It's a goner. A $400k loss, and that's just the house and the property it sat on. We lost everything in the fire. Grease fire from hell. It took, American Fork, Highland/Alpine, Lehi, and Pleasant Grove firefighters just to put the fire out. 3 trucks total, and about 20 firefighters. When we went back the next day, even though it had rained all night... my room was still glowing bright orange. A neighbor called the fire dept. again, and they came to knock more walls down to put the rest of it out. Luckily I was at my girlfriends house when it happened, and had packed a backpack full of 3 days worth of clothes. It is now, all I have to my name. Tom (Step-Dad), almost died twice from trying to contain the fire (he emptied a full extinguisher and 2 boxes of baking soda on it), and my Mom (Leah) got the dogs out ok (Jax and Maggie May). I guess it was meant to burn. Our dogs were locked in the truck by a police officer till My brother Sam and I got there to pick them up... while our parents were taken to the American Fork hospital for smoke inhalation. It was all over the news the night of April 24th, 2009, a day I will never forget. I have posted links on my Facebook account (one video link and one a photo gallery of the house burning to the ground from KSL news channel). I will be walking through the house making a film either today or tommorrow just to show the amount of devastation that occured, and will post those as well, as soon as I can. Keep Aunt Gerry in your prayers. She's had some recent health issues, and although she's doing well, she's not done and will need prayers and support. Drop her a line a let her know how much you love her! I know she'll appreciate it & I can't think of a better way for you to help from wherever you may be! If I think of something, I'll let you know! Ginny Pope became Ginny Johnson on Saturday, March 7th. A great time was had by all & a big thank you to those of you who could come & share the occasion with us! Her new mother-in-law, Sharon, put this together & it was too nice to not be shared....so enjoy!

Hannah Blackwelder got her mission call!! Salt Lake City Utah Mission :) She will report April 15th, so Ginny's wedding will probably be the last time we'll get to see her for a while. She's not too sad about that though...She gets to be a missionary, so that makes up for it!

Email Update from Hannah: I just wanted to let you know that my Dad is doing fine and has been moved to the recovery floor of the hospital. He'll be staying there pretty much through the rest of his stay, sometime around the end of March/beginning of April. He's doing really great in his recovery and his physical therapist is really pleased with his progress. If anyone wants to get a hold of him you can just call his cell - He has it with him in his room. Love, Hannah

Well I just wanted to post an update for those of you who may be “Out of the loop” I wanted to bring you in! Lonnie Blackwelder & Robin Pope have been spending some time in the hospital. Lonnie had a hip replacement surgery done last week and by all reports is doing well, he’s in the VA Hospital in Tampa. Robin was admitted last week due to a deep vein thrombosis condition, translation for us non medical persons – a blot clot, and a big one at that, in his leg. He underwent some medical procedures to try to breakup the clot last Thurs. & Friday, and came through them well. He’s been moved out of ICU, but they’re hanging on to him still & I’m sure it has to do with his sparkling personality...Ok not really. He’s at the St. Joseph’s hospital, also in Tampa. Please keep them in your prayers for speedy recoveries!

Wow 2 posts in 1 day........How could I forget?????

Ok so I didn't forget, I just didn't think about it before!

Ginny Pope, my baby sister, brought this nice guy home with her for Christmas and before he left to fly home.....asked her to marry him & she said YES!

His name is Chris Johnson and they are getting married in the Orlando temple on March 7th.

We are very excited for you both! Hope to see as many of you there as possible!!!!!

What a slacker!

Ok, well since I have been such a slacker....documented by MONTHS going by & no activity here, I have alot to catch up on!!!!!!!

Let's see since my last post in August....

We've had 2 new members born into the family...

Congratulations to Barry & Kassi Pope on the birth of the beautiful Brooklyn Claire Pope on August 16th.

And to Ethan & Sherrie Blackwelder on their new arrival, the gorgeous Isabella Pearl born on November 10th.

Although I think our Blackwelder Girl/Boy ratio is still grossly in favor of the Boys, but having these two lovely additions should greatly improve our margin of gain!

We've also had a few members gained via matrimonial vows as well...

Brian Blackwelder (aka.Uncle Brian) tied the knot with Shelly Moore (now Blackwelder) and we gained a few more girls in the union with Shelly's 3 daughters & 2 nieces. Congrats to you both and a big welcome to the family to ALL!

Christian Blackwelder & Heidi Butler also tied the knot...they were married in the Washington DC Temple in November.

Congratulations to both of you & Welcome Heidi!

2008 Family Address Book

I have posted the 2008 Blackwelder Bash Address Book to a COOL site Kate Lowder led me to, Box.net. It is a document hosting site, so I put the Address Book as well as the July News Letter, and the rest to come, on the site & sent links to every email address I have for our family members. The only hitch with the address book is that is it formated to print in booklet form so if you want to print it to make a hard copy feel free! It's just a tad confusing to look at, just be prepared! I think it's cool & hope you do too! Remember...Feedback IS my friend! XXXOOO to all!

Helloooooooo Family! I have mailed out the first, of many I hope, Blackwelder Buzz Newsletter! As of this moment, the plan is to do it monthly, however that is entirely up to you all and the amount of feedback I receive. After all, I need information and updates to PUT into the newsletter, without having to make it all up myself. So if you like it & want it to continue on a monthly basis, send me your updates! I hope you enjoy it. I hope this finds all of you happy & healthy! Hugs & kisses around!

Well I have to say that I was a bit nervous about the whole reunion thing...we didn't have a big showing of RSVP's to begin with and as the big day of arrival began, people began bailing like passengers leaving the "Titanic". But even though our numbers were small, I never thought that word would ever be used to describe our family, we had a blast! I'm so sorry not everyone could be there. More people would have been the only thing to have made it better.

We had our very own Blackwelder Banzia Water Park, an air conditioned main hall for meals, games & activities, lots of fun crafts (don't forget the tye dye), lots of great food (ask Ginny about her Taco Soup recipe), the Monkey Memphis Olympics, Mary Kay facials, some hysterical games of Moose - Moose...there's just too much to list it all.

I hope that you will mark your calendars for Summer 2010 so you can come & be with us!

Ok, I may know my way around the computer pretty well but this is new to me. So many people I know have now turned to ..."Blogging" so who am I to argue with progress! This blog, as so many other things I've tried, has been created in efforts to bring the "Blackwelder Family" (which is misleading since there are so many families encompassed in the almighty Blackwelder Family - The Popes, The Chambers - Taylors, The Preissers, The Cogbills, The Lowders, The Woods, and then there are the many, many Blackwelder families with in the Blackwelder Family, I digress...) the point being there are so many of us all over the country and the world (Shawn & Tina) that it is near impossible to stay apprised of all the additions and changes and happenings that occur in our family. So I want to find or help create a better way, and hopefully this is it, or at least a step in the right direction.....I guess we'll see!
